Moving Timetable 1 Week
Moving timetable - 1 Week before your move | move day
It’s just a week before you move - make sure that you clear all your bills that are due with local merchants. Decide finally which you're packing and moving to take with you. Pack these things without further delay and keep them away safely in a particular area. Precious things of yours that you should take with you when moving should be smaller and expensive things like jewelry and important documentation.
You can also arrange for your entire valuables items like money, jewelry, etc. to be placed in a safety deposit box. Move your valuable things from the safety deposit before the day of your moving so that you remember to take out the belongings you have stored away in your safety deposit box.
Collect anything that you may have given for dry cleaning, return library books and rented videotapes, etc. Confirm that you haven't missed out on any important details before moving like small repair jobs here and there. Label the boxes after packing and before you move them that are to be shipped with the colorful labels declaring important information about the box like, "Fragile", "Do Not Load" and "Load Last" to make it more convenient for yourself as well as the moving company to move them.
Clear out, defrost and clean your refrigerator, freezer and clean your stove all at least one day before moving. You can use baking soda to remove any bad smells. In fact, leave a container of baking soda inside the refrigerator. Lock the refrigerator doors so that they don’t open and close and accidentally.
Plan out and organize things that you will need while your goods are packed and being moved. Pack your luggages and finalize all travel arrangements for you and your family. Try to keep your plans as flexible as possible in the event of unexpected delays or schedule changes.
Make sure your agent knows the address and phone number of your new home. You should also give them the address and phone number of where you can be reached until you settle down in your new home. Make a detailed chart or description that will show the directions to your new home for your moving company. (also mention your itinerary, emergency contact numbers, etc.). Collect and keep all the keys, alarm codes, garage door openers and so that you are ready to give them to the new owner or real estate agent.
Incase your old home will be vacant for quite some time after you move, don’t forget to report it to the police. Arrange for payment of the moving company that you have hired. Before the movers deliver your things you need to make there payment either in cash or by a money order or you can pay through your credit card.
Take your pets for a check up to the veterinarian for any needed immunizations. Get copies of pets' veterinary records such certificates of vaccination and rabies inoculations. Donate plants to charitable organizations or hospitals if they cannot be moved.
Pack some things for your immediate personal use that you would require as soon as you move to your new home. Keep this box of things for personal use separate and load it at last or take it with you. Record all utility service meter readings like gas, electric, water etc before you move out of your old home and before you move into your new home. Go through and study your bill of loading and inventory lists carefully before you sign them. Keep these and all documents related to moving in one safe place until all dues have been cleared and all grievances and claims have been answered and settled.
Help the movers, and be present when the movers arrive. If you can’t be present yourself while the movers are there, ask a friend or family member to be there and make decisions in your absence. Let the agent know to who will be representing you.
On the day of moving re-check and go through the floor plan of your new home so you can let your movers know where you want them to keep your furniture and appliances. Be present in your new home when they deliver your goods. Incase you can’t be there ask someone reliable like a friend or family member to be there. Do not sign any documents such as an inventory before you check all your belongings as per your own list. Once you sign a paper such as the moving company inventory, it means that you have received all your things and they are no longer liable even if anything is missing or is damaged.
Arrange for a baby sitter for your children during the loading and unloading process on the moving day. Keep your pets safely in one room where they will not come in between the hectic activities of the loading and unloading process on moving day.
If you want unpacking service, then ask for this service before hand. Avoid using your stereos, computers, televisions, other electronic devices and appliances for at least one day after they are moved to the new home in order to avoid any harm to them. Remember your gadgets need time to adjust to room to any possible change in temperature.
Confirm one final time that all utilities have been terminated in your old home and are being provided in your new home. Arrange it so that your phone is connected one day before you move in.
